UROBOROS
The Uroboros is in the simplest meaning a snake that bites its own tail. It can be found today in any market of craftsmanship and custom jewelry: bracelets of this form and earrings are visible often set to women of every age… After all, the charm of the snake, positive animal and not negative as instead it is painted by the Christianity, it is difficult to reject for the call to the ancestral strengths that it emanates. In fact the snake recalls the eternity to become that follows a cyclical run, as the galaxy rotates on itself and contains, from a terrestrial point of view, the whole sky. The call is that of the Taoist snakes represented by Yin and Yang, symbolizing the dualistic nature of all the things. Obvious that such emblem has a tied up meaning to the concept of death and rebirth, of reincarnation and of ciclicity of the life like the becoming of the seasons.

As the planet Earth "it dies" to every winter and it revives in spring, equally the living beings have to intend their existence, also and above all spiritual, in this way. The uroboros therefore it is the cosmic egg; it is the androgynous one; it is the time; it is entirely the evolution that returns to unity. An amazing concept surely that has obviously been absorbed and done really from the medieval alchemy and in the first centuries of the Current Era also from the neoplatonic philosophical-hermetic tides and from the Gnosticism f Christian derivation. Just in the most heterodox Christianity the snake assumed new meanings, reaching to melt itself with the concept of internal awareness of the eternity return of the soul, in accord with the first proto-christian conceptions that had done proper the tendencies of reincarnation of the spirit absorbed by the Indo-Buddhists philosophies.

(Right) The incredibile Uroboros carved on the tomb of the Italy's writer Giacomo Leopardi, at the Parco Virgiliano near Naples. In a megalithic scenery, the poet, living in the '800, is celebrating with many patent cross and this fantastic symbolism: the Uroroboros surround the lamp and the fire, symbol of the Sophia, the Knowledge, and the owl, emblem of Goddess Athena.
