For
many ignorant people only satanic symbol, really the Pentacle,
in english called also "talisman", is one of the most
beautiful concepts ever represented. The shape is that of a
circle containing a five-pointed star. The star is an ancient
symbol as man and represents precisely the stylized human being:
legs, arms and head. Five arts, and even four limbs and a brain
capable of thinking, divine being… That means Pentacle:
the human being inserted in the Universe, being in perfect harmony
with creation. The tips in magical tradition, today resumed
Wicca religion, symbolizing the cardinal points followed by
the top tip, the Akasha, the world of spirits (the Egyptians
say it "Duat", Heaven: in fact the symbol has its
origin in Egypt as representation of the star Sothis, Sirius). |

The Pentacle
in Wicca is traced by witches during the rites, and it make
a protective function; in some tradition, the witches and
wizards reaching a second level of illumination bring the
pentacle reversed, with the top down, but this not has bad
meaning, only symbolizes a particular spiritual evolution.
Essentially the two tips pointing upward is a reminder of
the horns of the ram, the Baphomet and thus the Triple Goddess,
i.e. Isis with the horns and sun disk, protective Mother
Earth. But this symbol has been looted from Satanism, which
obviously incapable of having an autonomous symbolic tradition
is forced to plunder their symbol from Celtic tradition,
from the Egyptian etc.. The meaning for them is simple:
you put materialism above all things, spirituality and the
evolution of are discarded. Satanists often reversed over
the pentacle take a cross upside down in it. But it is precisely
modern traditions that do not have much credit, although
in the eyes of the public opinion dirty the positive image
of the benevolent and powerful pentacle.

| (Right) The
Egyptian Sothis Goddess, personification of Isis, was linked
to the star Sirius bearer of fertility because its eliac rise
was concurrent with the flood of the Nile and thus with the
annual deposition of silt which made fertile the fields. The
symbol of Sothis was the five-pointed star and here born the
symbolism of the pentacle. |
