An
androgynous being, with the face and legs of a goat, breast,
horns, wings of an angel, a pentacle drawn on the forehead,
a white crescent moon and a flat black that contoured it, a
caduceus coming out from the belly and a flashlight on the head.
This is the portrait of the Baphomet, the mysterious idol (worshipped
by Templars according to the Inquisition) for which ended at
the stake as heretics. Indeed, ever the Knights of the Temple
confessed that they adored this figure, but by pontifical documents,
in Templar houses was often found this symbol often associated
with the skull. What could be the Baphomet? For the Church,
Satan and all that is evil. But we do not believe in Satan,
as a figure too vague to constitute a unified real essence ...
In articles about magic we have faced the question of witchcraft
symbols and clearly excluding the derivation satanic (and as
such can not exist), it is clear that the Baphomet is the summary
of the most sacred themes: the goat is associated primarily
to God Amon with the head of a ram, but just for the Age of
Aries, and to Pan, Kernunnos, the God of Religion of Witchcraft.
The pentacle is a positive symbol of development, and research
of the property; wings are the version of the winged goddess
Isis, Queen of Wisdom, the gnostics similar to Sophia. The Caduceus,
associated with Thot and Mercury, represents the double helix
of DNA, or the energy of Kundalini that flows along the spine
through the chakras is certainly positive and associated with
the medicine and treatment. The moon white and black is a reference,
like the horns, the Triple Goddess, the Moon, and his black
and white phase typical of alchemical search of the Ego. |
The torch between
the horns is a reference to the solar disc of Isis. The female breast
shows us that this being is androgynous, it has reached a degree
of balance between the male and female components of his soul and
the ability to master its evolution because it is perfect and can
decide what part of himself left out in the vital experience. In
short, more than a satanic idol, the Baphomet is a symbol of life
and evolution, an archetype to which we aspire in compliance with
the energy that every symbol evokes. Rather than an idol, is a goal:
a goal to reach for perfection, which also shows us the way, as wrote Lorena Bianchi in her book "La Rivelazione del Bafometto" (Orizzonte Editrice).
Last consideration: the origin of the name Baphomet did write most
rivers of ink that its use. For some it is the distortion of the
name Muhammad, for others it is a Sufi term, others a Templar blasphemy
that rinnegaded Jesus. In our opinion, the more valid argument is
that provided by the English satanist Aleister Crowley, in which
he had all the elements to solve the mystery. Crowley, citing Jewish
letters and reading from right to left, reaches to translate "Father
Mitra". And having already addressed the issues of Mitra, we can
say that in all his hypothesis is the most plausible.

It is believed that the Baphomet was used in ceremonies of
the Knights Templars, although many facts have been distorted
by the torture suffered by members of during the process to
heresy immediately from Catholic Inquisition, in 1307. The book "La Rivelazione del Bafometto" (Orizzonte Editrice - link) shows the interesting analogies that connected the Templars and witches destiny. However,
it is true that the shocking Baphomet images adorn many churches,
including the beautiful Saint Merry in Paris (right). Here
the pagan figure not is only on the pediment, but the rosette
shows even overthrown pentacle, symbol of the Egypt ram-god,
Amon. |
